Abstract

A procedure for the creation of a behavior catalogue of social interaction in children is discussed. The behavior of preschool children in a free-behavior situation was videotaped, and the narrative accounts of the videotapes served as the basis to suggest a sequence of steps so as to provide elements leading to more systematic procedures for the creation of behavioral catalogues. Such steps are discussed in reference to decision making in clasiffying social interaction as well as in regard to such general problems in the categorization of behavior as behavior sampling, exhaustiveness and internal consistency.
